Robin and Linda Williams: Happy New Year

Dear Friends,
Happy New Year! We hope things were merry and bright for you during the Holiday Season. We stayed busy and, as a result, are still sending out the occasional Christmas card. We could feel a little sheepish for not having taken care of this before Christmas, but, of the many things we could find to fret over, this is not one of them. And it's a task we enjoy because it makes us think of the many friends we have made over the years.

This time last year we were packing, packing, packing and getting ready to make our big move from rural living to small town life. This year, instead of country roads, we're looking out onto quiet streets and the little park next to the Staunton Public Library.

We've decided that it's darn nice to have a library across the street from our front door. And it's darn nice to have a hardware store a block away. And it's darn nice to live in a neighborhood with musicians, ministers, coffee shop owners, newspaper editors, college administrators and teachers, writers, entrepreneurs, truck drivers, high school students, office workers, fabric artists, nannies, architects, realtors, receptionists and bookstore scriveners. And it's darn nice that all these folks have taken to us, the newcomers, and made us feel welcome. And it's darn nice to have garbage and recycling pickup, and streaming, screaming WiFi and to live in this wonderful, old (1898) house. All of these things, and so many more - sirens all day and night and street parking, for example were new to us in 2018 but, as we were ready for a change, we don't mind these adjustments to our world. There's a lot of positive energy around us, and we're enjoying it.

But, despite the changes, one thing has remained constant, our gratefulness to be able to have music as the major component in our lives. We like to say to ourselves that we're lucky no one has caught onto the joke we're playing. There were many high moments in '18, we wrote some songs, we visited some outstanding venues, we played with some superb musicians and we've brought into the new year a project or two we hope will come to fruition soon.

So now, bring on 2019. At the moment, we're switching gears from three outstanding Hank Williams tribute shows last week and are now getting back to our songs. As a result of the Hank shows and a couple of Leonard Cohen tribute concerts in November, we now consider a few Hank and Leonard songs as R & L songs and we'll be bringing them and a host of others to three of our favorite towns next weekend (see below and come if you're close). After that we'll take some time off and focus on getting Linda's ankle healed. She's been valiant this last year as she handled two surgeries on the blamed thing and we're hoping the third time will be the charm, that when we head out to California in April, this cantankerous joint will be as ready for the trip as we'll be.

Bumper Sticker Of The Month: If you elect a clown, expect a circus.

Hope this finds you healthy and happy. Go out and see some live shows soon because, as we all know, music makes you smarter.

Your pals,
Robin and Linda
