"The Rhythm of Love"
Sugar Hill SH-CD-1027
Featured artists on "A Prairie Home Companion," Robin and Linda Williams have emerged as the finest duet act on the country folk circuit. And "The Rhythm of Love" is a masterful collection of home-grown songs and heartfelt singing that should easily contend for album of the year.
The autobiographical title track that opens this 12-song CD sets the tone as it summarizes the couple's 20 years as partners in life and song: "Walking in perfect time/ Talking in perfect rhyme, Your heart and mine/ Beat in the rhythm of love."
With passion and honesty, the Williamses' ballads and story songs explore fear and loss from perspectives as fresh as the one expressed in "They All Faded Away," a rare look at the social consequences of dissolution: "Your folks lived down by the lake/ l'd see them for your sake/ But when you turned away, they all began to fade/ Like ghosts in the air/ Like they were never there/ They all faded away."
Instrumental backing is provided by an all-star cast that includes
Jerry Douglas on Dobro and Stuart Duncan on fiddle.
