Robin and Linda Williams
Sugar For Sugar

Sugar Hill Records

A mix of country, folk, gospel and bluegrass, Robin and Linda Williams write top notch songs that are smart, melodic and creative. That they're also extremely accomplished musicians adds icing to the cake. But it's their ability to create exquisite harmonies that continually touches. The rousing title track is lyrically clever with a sinfully catchy chorus, while the bluegrass-inflections of "Traffic Light" perfectly fits the funny and poignant story the song tells. And beware their only cover. Their version of Greg Brown's "The Cheapest Kind" is so moving that unless you remain vigilant, tears'll threaten. Mary Chapin Carpenter contributes backing vocals on two of the tracks here, which provides an embarrassment of riches for an already opulent treat.
