#35 summer 96 Robin and Linda Williams Sugar For Sugar Sugar Hill Records Robin & Linda Williams stayed away from the bluegrass gospel on their latest, and filled it instead with a bunch of great original tunes plus one from Greg Brown called "The Cheapest Kind". In fact in "Honky Tonk Nation" they actually say "God bless this honky tonk". But they're not backsliders, this is soulful music just the same. They've got some stellar help from Mary-Chapin Carpenter, Tim & Mollie O'Brien, Jimmy Gaudreau and several others. Truly fine contemporary country/ folk music - great singin', restrained ("just play the song, son") pickin' and excellent songs. As welcome as a warm spring breeze. -MB |
