Robin and Linda Williams: The Respite Is Over

Dear Friends,
We had supper with friends last Friday night and one of them berated us for not sending a newsletter in March. Since we weren't touring, we decided not to bother folks. But our friend said, "just telling us that would be fine." Now that we have some gigs coming up, we're out of excuses.

So, it's St. Paul, VA this Friday. We love southwestern Virginia for its interesting people, and great music and its role in the formation of the Country Music industry. We got our first in depth dose of that part of the world many years ago when we recorded three albums for June Appal Records. And we had a fun month at the Barter Theatre in Abingdon, VA once upon a time, re-writing and performing in the "Stonewall Country" musical. Many musical lessons were learned in that part of the world and many fond memories remain.

Then it's Lynchburg, VA on Sunday for our first show with the Village Concert Series since before the pandemic. Our last show with them was unforgettable as we teamed up with Trent Wagler and Dereck Kratzer for a night of nothing but Leonard Cohen songs. We still have a "Leonard tune" up and running for the shows this weekend. To quote Tom Paxton, "nothing assures a good show like excellent songs." There seem to be a few tickets left but you should make sure by using the email address at the bottom of this missive.

After ten days at home, we'll head to Florida and the Gamble Rogers Folk Festival. For those who don't know of Gamble, he was a killer guitarist/raconteur/storyteller and mentor who died a hero's death trying to save a drowning swimmer. He was also a first citizen of St. Augustine, FL and has had a state park named after him as well as this festival. He was a solid, solid friend of ours and it means a lot to us to return to this festival.

And as an extra treat for us all, Michael Clem, a good pal and wonderful musician, will be joining us on bass for our April gigs. We're excited about playing music with him.

A CD recently showed up in our mailbox from our friend, Greg Trafidlo. "Virginia Morning" is the latest CD by his band, "Trifolkal," and we were pleased to find out they recorded our song "Don't Let Me Come Home a Stranger." The CD is a pleasure to listen to with wonderful songs, both their own and, obviously, by others, all expertly played and sung. We congratulate Greg, Laura and Neal for some great music and thank them for recording our song. You can hear a snippet of it by going to https://trifolkal.hearnow.com/.

Bumper Sticker of the Month: My wife said I never listen to her, or something like that.

We hope this finds you all well and your lives drama-free. We have some irons in the fire that we'd like for folks to know about once they get a little hotter. So, your respite from the onslaught of emails may soon be over.

Your pals,
Robin and Linda
