Robin and Linda Williams: November's News
Dear Friends, Truthfully, up until a few weeks ago, we've been driving ourselves almost to distraction with this new CD of ours, "A Better Day A-Coming." First, there was the recording (record, mix, listen, tweak, then repeat). Next came the release (what the heck are ISRC codes?). And finally, the really fun part, promoting the CD. But, that's the record company's job. Oh! Right! Now we are the record company! Every day it's "did you post something about the CD on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter?" "Twitter? What's that?" Oh yeah, "wasn't Donald Trump big on Twitter? Are we going to end up like him?" "Did you send thanks to that DJ for playing our song?" "Are we on the charts?" "What? There are charts for Folk Music?" But the CD has exceeded by far any expectations we might have had. It's been over three months since its release and, though it is slowly descending, considering its longevity it is still in a good position on the FAI and NAAC charts and its descent from the Top 10 has been more gradual than most. As well, we enjoyed some artist spotlight time, which was nice. Lately, we've been thankfully distracted from the labors of self-promotion by other things. Through a connection we made this summer, some moviemakers have produced, filmed, and are now editing a music video of our song, "Old Lovers Waltz." The plan is to release it early in 2022 and give "A Better Day" another little boost. These folks at Deep Structure Productions are the real deal and we've enjoyed our time with them. Check them out here: https://www.deepstructure.com/. We'll keep you posted on the video's progress. As well, we wrote and recorded a song for Deep Structure which will be used in a documentary series they are producing for PBS, "Life in The Heart Land." The pilot for the series will run on Virginia's Public TV, "VPM", on November 11, 8:00 pm. We've seen it and like it a lot. But then, what do you expect us to say? We heard our song. Here's a link to the trailer: https://vpm.org/life-in-the-heart-land#section-7517124. And gigs have been a thoroughly enjoyable distraction. Starting in late August, we began to get the rust off our performance skills in front of live audiences. So far, the COVID precautions of each venue have worked, and weÕve enjoyed all the shows in upstate New York, Virginia, and Missouri. Of special note was a gig last weekend in Richmond, VA for the Richmond Performing Arts Alliance's "Legends On Grace" series (https://rpaalliance.com/legendsongrace). It was a one-of-a-kind gig for us, and we had a grand time with Tim Timberlake looking back at old pictures - in front of a live audience, mind you - telling stories and singing songs from different periods of our career. Concerning upcoming work, three of the shows with Garrison Keillor have had to be re-scheduled until January/February of 2022, so we'll be home until the middle of the month when we'll go to Rockford, IL. The concert there will be an extra special night as we join a myriad of other performers to celebrate the legacy of Bill and Karen Howard and their family whoÊstarted a great club called Charlotte's Web and, for years, played a preeminent role in the cultural and artistic community of Rockford. We'll also, towards the end of the month, get to reconnect with folks at the Brandywine Friends of Old Time Music in Delaware and the Down Home in Johnson City, TN. In December we'll be in front of the home folks for a show at the Blackburn Inn in Staunton, VA and we'll finish out the year with two Hank Williams tribute shows. Bumper Sticker of The Month: Honk If I'm Co-Dependent (someone please explain this to us) In terms of bringing early Christmas cheer, we've decided not to let the television get the jump on us this year. So, upon the advice of our webmistress, Patti Simmons, we are offering a 15% discount on all Robin and Linda CDs from now until the end of the year. We think our CDs are the perfect gift for someone you know. Can you imagine the smile on your loved ones' faces as they look in their Christmas stockings and see one of our CDs peeping out at them? All you must do is go to https://www.robinandlinda.com/ordering.html. Keep on the sunny side. Remember, music makes you smarter.
